Cardabilities #80

Welcome to Cardabilities sketch #80! Today reveals yet another fun sketch, so head on over to the Cardabilities blog and check out all the amazing inspiration by the rest of the design team.
I went bright and bold with my card, using lots of saturated colours with the gallon/quart/pint rule. A gallon of orange (the designer paper, the button, the sequins, the stick pins), a quart of blue (the ribbon, the sequins), and a pint of chartreuse (the scalloped border).   What can YOU come up with using this great sketch?

Wish Big Candles

I'm getting all technique-y around here lately in the lazy days of summer! You should SEE my craft table...there is embossing powder, watercolor markers, crayons, distress stains and so much more littered around.  I have been having FUN.
My last post showed stamping on patterned paper and today's card features stamping on vellum. I have a few cute little vellum envelopes kicking around and thought one would be perfect as the focal point on a bright and cheery birthday card. I used Staz On black ink to stamp my sentiment and the candles (slightly off towards the bottom of the envelope) and then heat set it with my heat gun.  Staz On is made for stamping on non-porous and semi-porous surfaces so I really didn't NEED to heat set it, but it's an extra step I took 'just in case'. I then coloured in the candles with Ranger Distress Markers (loooove!) and added some gems.  The end result is a bright, cheery card and you can pop a gift card in the envelope for an extra special treat!
I created this fun birthday card for the Birthday Card Challenge in the Moxie Fab World! There is some fabulous birthday inspiration in the links there...check em' out!

Hello Friend!

Long time no post! Vacation, general summer fun, no craft time and a wonky computer led to some time away from blogging...just a few days, but I am back!
Here is a card that shows stamping on patterned paper rather than on a solid colour of cardstock.  I find that a subtle pattern and light colour works best so that it doesn't interfere with the image you are stamping.  Add a double bow tied with a button and done! I'm not a hug fan of ribbon; it lends itself to classy and elegant cards which is not my area of expertise, but once in awhile I can drag it out and put it to good use!

Cardabilities #79

The 15th of the month means it's Cardabilities sketch reveal time!! I loooove the rounded corners on sketch  #79. Not much different from regular sharp corners, but it seems to add a certain flair I think.  Pop on over to the main blog to check out all the other creations by the design team...AND there is a new call for the next term.  Interested in applying? Check out the details there!
My card is pretty self explanatory, but as always if you have questions feel free to email me. You can find my email in my Google profile.  I used one of my favourite sentiment sets out there- Handwritten Sentiments from Simon Says Stamps. I just LOVE this set!

bright & bold birthday

Here's a happy birthday card that is bright and full of neon happiness! First I placed all the acrylic button stamps on my block in the arrangement I wanted, then I inked them up going from left to right using 3 colours of ink for a gradient look. It's a pretty simplistic card but I love it because it's so BRIGHT!
Speaking of BRIGHT, we had a tie dye party here yesterday with my kids, a few friends and family members. We had so much fun creating patterns and trying out techniques...love the results and can't wait to wear our creations!! For more tie dye tips and ideas check out the iLoveToCreateBlog! We used the Tulip One-Step Tie Dye kits and they were amazing!!

Birthday Toast

Here's a cute little birthday card for someone special! My neighbour celebrated his 80th birthday on the weekend and the neighbourhood was invited to a birthday lunch in his honour. I gave him this card. Kind of perfect for a man or woman, but maybe leaning more towards the masculine side. I hope he liked it!

Birthday season!

Oh wow is it ever birthday season at our house! I can count 6 family members with July birthdays, and at least 4 close friends too.  Not to mention MINE on July 16th.  But I didn't make this card for myself, lol! Nope, it went off in the mail to Ottawa to my BFF. Once you are over 21 are you allowed to say BFF? :) I'm lucky to have a few BFFs, but Jen is definitely deserving of a fun, colourful card like this and she's waaaaayyy older than me (2 days).   Hopefully she enjoys it!
I stamped on an angle for this card, using Neon Pink for one of the sentiments and then added spray mist to the cardstock over top.  I like 'flicking' the mist around so it splatters, rather than using the spray bottle to mist it around. It's just a bit of a different look.

How about a powerful, explosive, wham bam kind of card for today? I should have posted this card YESTERDAY for the American 4th of July celebrations! We are lucky to live very close to the Michigan border and last night were able to drive to watch some fireworks along the St. Clair River. It was a wonderful show and how lucky are we to see 2 firework displays, days apart for Canada Day AND the 4th?!
This is an *almost* one layer card...it started as one layer but I trimmed it to fit a red cardstock base because it needed a little oomph, you know what I mean? :) I attempted the rock and roll technique with yellow and orange inks on the starbursts, but I think I was a little too heavy handed so it looks pretty harsh. Practice makes perfect!

Teacher thanks

School is officially done and out for summer! We consider today to be the first 'real' day off for summer vacation since every day since last Thursday has been jam packed with family activities and special occasions. Today is the first day of just RELAXING. :)
This teacher thank you card went to my son's Grade One teacher on the last day of school. His report card said that he was a bright young gentleman and a pleasure to teach.  Words a momma loves to hear! For this bright card, I added chunky glitter to the blocks in the stamped border- easy peasy! I'll be using this border set by Lawn Fawn again...so fun and with so many options!
