Create Together with Lisa Petrella

My wonderful new friend Lisa Petrella from Bellalistona is my Create Together collaborator this week and we're working with a fun stamp set and dies from Concord & 9th. I met Lisa at a recent crafty weekend away and we had so much fun together. It is so great getting the chance to meet other cardmakers- go for it if you get the chance! Lisa has fun, clean and simple style I just adore. I love the tags she has posted lately; this alpaca tag just cracks me up, and this one is so elegant.

Here are the sets we used:
First up is a one-layer card I made using the O Christmas Tree set. I stamped the stars repeatedly in a rainbow pattern down the front of the card base, then using my MISTI stamped the sentiment several times to get a crisp, dark black look that wouldn't get lost against the busy background.

Next is a super fun tree I created using the Take A Bough dies. Don't limit yourself to using the boughs for just a tree like I have done. So many possibilities! :)

I die cut the boughs a bazillion (estimate) times from a rainbow array of cardstock and adhered them on the skewer as the helpful YouTube video instructs. Isn't that fun? I'll post a few other pictures of it on my Instagram feed for a better look. Links to that can be found at the top right of my page, under my profile picture.

Thank you SO much Lisa for creating with me this week. I hope you had fun. :) Time to head on over to Bellalistona to check out what Lisa came up with. Have a great day!

Clean and simple Congrats

I'm popping in quickly to share a card I made for the Addicted to CAS challenge- code word Congratulations. Happy 4th birthday to them and this fun challenge! Clean and simple cards are my favourite kind to make. They're not always as simple as they seem to put together.

I used the gorgeous floral spray from Hello Lovely by Concord & 9th. Copic markers were used to colour it in and the sentiment from WPlus9 was stamped using my MISTI. One layer and minimal work- that's my kind of card!

That's all for today, folks. I'm running a Christmas card-making program at our local library tomorrow night and have lots of work to do still! Time to get to work!

Inspired by All the Little Things #34

The rustic décor in this week's Inspired by All the Little Things challenge made me excited to use the gorgeous buffalo plaid paper in the My Mind's Eye Comfort & Joy patterned paper collection. All things plaid, rustic, earthy and wood!

After die cutting the Merry & Bright sentiment from Lil' Inkers I cut it again using a stitched rectangle die, and then stamped the trees in black. The whole focal piece was adhered to black cardstock and popped up on the plaid paper using foam adhesive. It's rather dramatic and masculine which I love.

There's some gorgeous inspiration from the design team this week, and our fabulous guest Joyce Mehrberg has a lovely creation for us too! Check it out and play along. I can't wait to see what you come up with. Happy Saturday!

Create Together with Tracey McNeely

Tracey McNeely and I are back with another fun Create Together collaboration, again finishing each other's cards. This time Tracey gave me a pretty one layer watercolour creation, with a black flower from Altenew's Floral Shadow set stamped on.

It's always intimidating to try and finish someone else's work but I gave it my best shot. For my sentiment I used the Celebrate die from Papertrey Ink's Block Talk collection cut from black cardstock, and covered with Spica glitter marker for some serious sparkle. That stuff really needs to get it's act together and show up better in photos lol. I filled in the space below with silver sparkle paper and added a sequin cluster to the centre of the flower. I love how elegant it looks.

Here's card I gave to Tracey to finish. I used patterned papers from My Favorite Things and die cut the edges with a die from Reverse Confetti.

Head on over to Tracey's blog, In My Creative Opinion and check out how she finished the card I gave her. While you're there be sure to check out her 25 Days of Christmas Tags series! It's amazing! Thanks so much to Tracey for playing along with me again this week. Have a great day.

SOFT and sweet

Yay for having time to play in challenges! I'm joining in on the CASology challenge this week using the word SOFT as the inspiration.

Soft reminds me of bunnies, babies and all things cute and cuddly. :) I took out my Mama Elephant New Family set and made a new baby card with the challenge in mind.

I did a soft pink watercolour wash for my background right on the card base, then stamped my sentiment and grass images. The bunnies were stamped, die cut, then coloured with Copic markers. A few sequins finish it off.

Have a great day everyone and thanks for stopping in!

Inspired by All the Little Things #33

Bottle brush trees are still all the rage this holiday season. I did some Christmas décor shopping for myself yesterday, and was in awe of all the lovely displays. If I had a fireplace mantel I'd decorate it just like the one in the photo inspiration this week for Inspired by All the Little Things.

Concord & 9th have a gorgeous stamp set- O Christmas Tree- that features bottle brush trees and I figured it would be perfect for this week's challenge! I stamped the trees in soft colours first, then a few bold colours in the foreground. The sentiment was heat embossed in gold over top and then the entire piece was die cut using a stitched scalloped circle die. I love the non-traditional colours on this card and need to make more like it! :)

Thanks for stopping today and head on over the Inspired By blog if you haven't already to see the gorgeous inspiration from the rest of the design team. You can also link up your card over there. I can't wait to see what you create!

Inspired by All the Little Things #32

This week's photo inspiration for Inspired by All the Little Things reminds me of rustic, outdoorsy Christmas decor. Those skis? I want some like that to greet company at my back door. :)

I used the absolutely gorgeous Comfort & Joy line from My Mind's Eye for the glittery plaid patterned paper, and my new favourite Christmas stamp set, Be Merry from WPlus9. I used Copic markers for the coloured details. The sentiment focal point was adhered with foam tape. This was a VERY quick card to put together which makes it perfect for mass production. I love to have a few designs ready to go so I can make more as necessary.

I'm playing along with Virginia's View challenge this month, which is to use Stripes and Plaid. That fun patterned paper made it easy to play along!

Have a great day and thanks for stopping in!

Create Together with Tracey McNeely

It's been awhile since I have done a Create Together post with a crafty friend and I was missing it. The fabulous Tracey McNeely from In My Creative Opinion and I arranged to swap cards when we were on our Kansas retreat together (it's funny that us two Canadians had to go all the way to America to meet) and after ooooohing and ahhhhhhing over the beautiful creations she gave me, I worked up the nerve to finish them. It's intimidating trying to complete someone else's work but I gave it my best shot. I can't wait to see how she finished what I gave her!

Here we are. :)

So we forgot to get a shot of the 'before' card, but what Tracey gave me was a white embossed flower (from Ellen Hutson I believe) on Bristol paper, backed with some lovely Lawn Fawn patterned paper.

I set to work holding my breath, carefully sponging dye inks within the embossed borders of the flower. Then I went in with a Distress Marker and added some highlights there and there to the petals, and a soft wash of blue around the entire flower. It looked nice so far so I literally spoke aloud to myself and said, "LEAVE IT ALONE, MARCIE." I don't own the same stamp set so if I ruined it I was going to have to drive 5 hours to Tracey's house and get her to emboss another one for me. :) The sentiment was put together using a mishmash of product and the finishing touch was the SUPER fun Fairy Dust from Drive By Crafts. It added the touch of fun and sweetness I was looking for.

Now you should head on over to Tracey's blog and see how she finished this card below. I used Zig markers on Tim Holtz watercolour paper for the background, and splattered on some black spray mist. I'm excited to see what Tracey came up with!

Thanks for stopping in today! Tracey will be back creating with me in two weeks and in the meantime, you should check out the fabulous 25 Days of Christmas Tags series that she runs. It's amazing.

Inspired by All the Little Things #31

And now we're into the holiday inspiration for the latest Inspired by All the Little Things challenge! Seasonal cards can be so much fun to make. I love adding a little more glitz and glam to them than I usually would.

This card packs a punch with some serious sparkle. The gold striped patterned paper is hard to catch in this lighting but the 'wow' factor is BIG. I die cut the Snowflake Bird from gold sparkle paper and cream cardstock, and pieced it together. On the poinsettia die I added a few details with Copic markers to give it some dimension. The "merry" sentiment was adhered with foam tape. No stamping today! It was fun to pull out my die cuts and see what I could come up with. :)

I hope you'll play along with us this week. You can link up at the main post here and I can't wait to see what you make. Have a happy Saturday.

Card Concept- Pretty in Pink

I'm playing along with the Card Concept #61- Pretty in Pink challenge this week and have a clean and simple card to share. The lovely florals in the center and the colours inspired me.

The pre-printed A2 sized sheets from Papertrey Ink made this card quick to put together. I simply watercoloured using Distress Markers, added a stamped sentiment, and die cut a stitched edge. A few clear sequins add a touch of sparkle that will hopefully cheer up the recipient.

Have a great day!
